Monte Cristo Ghosts

optical communicationsWell, it certainly was a nice day.

As we doodled around the old town of Monte Cristo, we as other hikers read signs and pondered the lifestyle of the old pioneers that once lived here.

The path is a path well traveled, both past and present. As you gaze upon artifacts scattered around the site, you can’t help but wonder what is truly old and what is trash left by visitors.

I’m pretty sure the plastic 7-up bottle to the left of the trail next to the Cliff Bar wrapper is recent. The leather heel of a shoe, most likely a womans shoe with heels, because of the 3 nail holes in it are not likely to be that new.

As we walked through the town there were many pictures taken. This one was particularly interesting to us, because we remember saying specifically that we hadn’t seen a grave site for the town and that we wondered where it was. At that moment Chris took a picture of where we were and this is what showed up on camera….

the woodpecker…so I thought

So there I was smoking at lunch break. Looking into oblivion ( the small forested area next to where I park my car at work) I heard an unusual sound. Not quite the hounding sound of a pecker if a pecker could chuck… a rustling big bird sound. As I took a puff I spotted a big red head. No, not my ex husband….a bird.

So the sounds a big ass redheaded woodpecker makes when not actually pecking for the wood it pecks is amazing.

It doesn’t snore, it doesn’t speak, caw or chirp. It’s just LOUD. Red headed kind of loud.

It dances with the crow and the local squirrel. About five minutes into it..I’m pretty sure I wanted to learn how to play flamenco guitar to match the beauty of the sound.

Try looking up a “Western Tanager”. Quiet, colorful and surprising. Here I am….look at me…. bright colors.

Brain-locked

>компютри втора употребаthe past two months I’ve had most of every waking hour doing 10-minute tasks that absolutely have to be done at once or the world will collapse into a small black dot. You know you can spend 10 minutes trying to decide what 10 minute task should be done next, and then that 10 minute delay means you should pick a different task and pretty soon you haven’t done a damn thing! That’s what I call brain-lock …

So now I’m working a new system. I always make sure I have big time-hog task that is brainless to turn to when I need to think. A great one is doing dishes, but when they are clean I quickly find something else, although it’s always comforting to have a dirty dish or two just waiting for me. There are a lot of semi-brainless tasks waiting for you right now! For instance, my motorcycle is terribly dirty, you should come over and clean it ….

During a break at work, the crisp air and the blowing wind made me look up. The rustling of the leaves which fell onto my car gave me the ultimate privacy & had me paying attention to the sounds. I had to poke my head out of the window to see the source of the wondrous chirping and endless chattering. Provided to me by the simple, yet entertaining Golden Finches that filled the trees to my left. Every day around lunch time a swooping bunch (about 10-15) Finches have been stopping by to pluck the already dead leaves of their food. They nibble at their stems while hanging upside down until the leaves begin to float with the wind. Sometimes the leaves smother the bird and knock it to the ground before the Finch can get its bearings. The colors of fall and the freezing days along with the migrating critters brought this image to my mind. Enjoy. Drawn by me at some point, while I was smoking…

Severing the limb

Sometimes in order to save the body, you have to severe a limb. Emotionally this has happened with my girlfriend in Malaysia, GG. We’re no longer a couple, I am heartbroken, but this is for the better.  She has awakened the ability for me to love again, something I thought was no longer possible. The journey for us to be together is simply difficult for me and too difficult for her. I go back once to Malaysia in November because I’ve already bought the tickets, I don’t go back to see GG, I go back to explore the country I will probably not have an opportunity to explore again.

Finally the story about that trip!

Two weeks is entirely too long to write something, but oh well here’s the full story.

I left the house around 4:30am thinking I might head up to Deception Pass before sunrise. As I was heading north, however, I noticed it wasn’t particularly clear in the west, so I went east on highway 20 instead. This isn’t the first time I’ve done this sort of thing, so I knew that I wasn’t dressed for the cold air in the North Cascades and I would have to endure it. Overall it wasn’t the worst I’ve dealt with, but as usual my knees and fingertips were frozen.

Well, I woke up in the middle of the night thinking I might get a photo of this, but what I didn’t realize is how small the moon is. I zoomed in as far as I could and the picture is still blurry. At least I was able to take the photos from my front porch, but now I’m tired as hell and for not a very good reason.

Family in town

I thought about the Blue Jay that screamed at me at first break. I thought about my husband that was not feeling well for a few days. I thought about the call I got from my little Boo. So many things…what really bothered me??? Do you really want to know?

My Papa loves me so much, that he protects me by letting me go. He grants his wisdom and strength by making me think about what is wisdom & strength.

I chose to get married on my Papa’s birthday. Why? Cuz that day will always be the most valuable day in my life.

My daddy was in town for the first time in a long while recently. I wanted to call him. I could feel that he wanted to ask me why I hadn’t.

So, while I was smoking….. Somehow, he pressed a key in my heart. Papa, I know you hear the Blue Jay yelling at me. Papa, I know you tell me to be careful at work. Papa, I know you cry with pride when I tell you that I’ve learned something new… While I was smoking… I felt Papa tell me that he loves me. You have no idea what that means to me.

Papa……this “While I was smoking” is for you. Your Daughter.

I love you too!!
